This former Dutch colony is now an immense metropolis where skyscrapers live alongside volcanoes, tea plantations and huge shopping centres. Ready to touch the sky?
A city for shopping and skyscrapers
The metropolitan area has 30 million residents. This is one of the biggest cities on the planet, and that’s precisely why just stopping and watching people and life go by is one of the best things to do if you want to discover the charm of Jakarta. Other lovely places to discover in the city are Kota Tua, the old part of the city, full of Dutch colonial-style buildings, Monas, Indonesia’s national monument, a 132-metre tall column which commemorates the country’s independence or the spectacular Istiqalal mosque, with capacity for 120 thousand people. Going up to the roof of one of its many skyscrapers to see the spectacular views of the city is also a must.
