Meliá Madeira Mare

“We were very pleased with our stay at Melia Madeira Mare. The room was very spacious and had a breathtaking sea view. I would especially like to thank the hotel staff for making our stay so comfortable. The breakfast menu was excellent, with a wide variety of options to choose from. Room service was also very quick and efficient. The indoor pool is a big plus, especially when the weather outside is not good.”

“Overall, Meliá Madeira Mare is a good hotel, but parts of it feel like they’ve been frozen in the 1990s and are clearly overdue for renovation. The biggest positive by far is the staff. Reception, breakfast service, bar staff, pool staff — honestly 10/10 across the board. Everyone was professional, friendly, and genuinely helpful. The team is doing an outstanding job. Breakfast was exactly what you would expect from a 5-star hotel: large selection, plenty of food, and good quality overall. We stayed in a suite, which was spacious and comfortable: separate bedroom, kitchen, living room, huge bathroom, and a large balcony. On the technology side, streaming from an iPad to the TV was impossible — but that’s fairly common in hotels where the TVs were probably purchased around the same time Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook. A small but noticeable detail: there was no vanity kit in the bathroom, which you would normally expect in a 5-star property. Otherwise, the bathroom itself was very good. Now for the less impressive part. On our second day, we ordered gin & tonics to the room. Three days later, housekeeping still hadn’t removed or cleaned the dirty glasses. One of them was even covered with a tray, which honestly made it feel more like a science experiment to see what new life form might develop inside. If anyone staying in room 805 discovers something previously unknown to biology, please let us know. The jacuzzi by the pool does not work properly — and worse, it smells awful. Seriously, avoid it. The jacuzzis near the sauna technically work, but only partially. The water pressure is so weak that maybe small children would consider it a massage. Adults definitely won’t. Also, be careful in the sauna: some of the wooden benches feel unstable and partially collapse under weight. Trust me, you do not want to find out what’s underneath. The restrooms near the restaurant on the lower floor were largely out of service, although the ones on the first floor were fine. In the end, this is still a good hotel with excellent staff and solid room quality. But too many small details are neglected — and unfortunately, details are what create the overall experience.”
